Arielle Deem is a vocalist, composer and artist of the Los Angeles community. With roots stemming from Northern California, Arielle discovered a passion for music at a young age and grew with an awareness of it's positive and nurturing affects on the community around her. Studying both classical music and jazz throughout her high school career, she placed third in the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod w/ her high school's top renaissance choir, Davis Senior High School Madrigals, and sang as the featured vocalist of the DHS Jazz Band at the 2010 Monterey Jazz Festival. In 2014, Arielle graduated from the Herb Albert School of Music at the California Institute of the Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Vocal Performance and Musical Arts. While at CalArts, she explored performance, composition, creativity, pedagogy, leadership, collaboration, spirituality and more. She established the first-ever CalArts graduating musicians showcase, CalArts Sound Stream, for graduating CalArts musicians to preview their original work to both industry professionals and locals at the Troubadour Theater, now produced annually by the college.
Inspired by mentors Susie Allen, Harmony Jirodek, Darek Oles, Wadada Leo Smith, Bennie Maupin, Frankie Ross and the family ,friends and artists around her, Arielle has crafted her own voice and sound, bending traditional, re-envisioned and newly found approaches of alternative jazz, soul, and consciousness to the LA community. In August, 2014, Arielle Deem released her debut album, No Place Like Now, and launched an independent California Coast Tour with her band, playing in Sacramento, Davis, San Francisco, Santa Barbara and Los Angeles while promoting her album release (read the album review on Elevator Mag here).
